Forte Life Insurance of Cambodia has highlighted the positive potential of Cambodia's life insurance sector in its recent presentation at the Asia Life Insurance Summit 2026 held in Hong Kong, noting that the sector has seen remarkable growth in recent years. Mr. Pruy Sithon, CEO of Forte Life Insurance, addressed regional life insurance leaders and policymakers, presenting a comprehensive strategic plan aimed at reducing the retirement financial protection gap for both emerging and developed markets in Asia. He stated that Cambodia, with its young demographic structure, is a prime example of a high-potential emerging market. With an average population age of just 27, Cambodia significantly differs from mature North Asian markets where the average age is around 48. This demographic advantage offers a unique opportunity for Cambodia to build a sustainable financial foundation before the region's population ages. Mr. Pruy Sithon also elaborated on the "Financial Protection Ladder," specifically designed for the workforce in developing markets. This ladder is divided into four stages to achieve financial security: 1. Financial Safety: Building a fundamental financial safety net for families. 2. Reserves: Creating readily available cash and funds for short-term emergencies. 3. Wealth Accumulation: Growing long-term assets during productive years. 4. Regular Income: Converting accumulated wealth into a stable cash flow to ensure a dignified retirement. He emphasized, "We must embark on the right journey, starting with basic pure protection products first. By prioritizing protection from the initial stage, we can ensure that every family maintains a decent standard of living, even when faced with unforeseen events or unexpected loss of life." This protection, he added, will continue to be effective throughout the customer's life, guiding them towards a dignified and well-funded retirement. For young economies like Cambodia, the focus cannot solely be on insurance premium figures. "We must focus strongly on expanding the number of customers we can protect," he stated. "As more customers are brought into this safety net, we can build stronger consumer confidence and contribute to systematically enhancing financial literacy and market understanding across the country." He further explained the distinction between life insurance, where benefits are paid upon death, and retirement insurance, where benefits are provided while the customer is alive. Therefore, the sector's success in helping customers live longer and healthier lives signifies a high responsibility in supporting them throughout their journey. The positive social impact is clearly reflected in the market size, with Cambodia's life insurance sector currently providing protection to approximately 1.5 million people. As a significant pioneer in this field, Forte Life Insurance not only holds a market share of up to 44% but also demonstrates its crucial role in contributing to the nation's financial sector development. Mr. Pruy Sithon affirmed, "Forte Life Insurance's extensive reach brings with it significant responsibility at a regional level. Representing Cambodia on this prestigious platform allows us to demonstrate that developing ASEAN nations can build a sustainable and highly trusted financial ecosystem. We are not just selling products; we are systematically preparing and building the future of retirement financial protection for the people in the region." Source: AKP Khmer
