President Prabowo Invited to Open NU's 35th Congress in Jombang

The Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Indonesia's largest Islamic organization, has officially invited President Prabowo Subianto to open its 35th Congress (Muktamar) scheduled to be held in Jombang, East Java, from August 27-31, 2026. The event will take place at the Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School. Saifullah Yusuf, also known as Gus Ipul, the Secretary General of NU Central Board (PBNU) and the Organizing Committee Chairman, stated on Tuesday (July 21) that preparations are progressing well with approximately 40 days remaining until the congress. "We hope for direct inauguration by President Prabowo Subianto, and PBNU has officially invited the President to open the 35th NU Congress in Jombang," he said in Surabaya. The PBNU is also consolidating with NU Regional Boards (PWNU) and Branch Boards (PCNU) across Indonesia to ensure all regional NU officials can become full participants in the congress with their respective rights. "For this reason, I hope all PWs and PCs that have not yet completed the required letters or documents can continue to strive and work hard to make the best use of the remaining time," he added. Gus Ipul mentioned that PBNU is providing special policies for PWNU throughout Papua, along with assistance and mitigation for branches and regions that have not yet completed their documents to obtain official decrees (SK). "PBNU is giving opportunities to PWs and PCs so that all can follow the process and become full participants of the congress. PBNU is also providing special policies for PWNU throughout Papua and, of course, providing assistance and mitigation to branches and regions that have not yet completed their documents in order to obtain the determination of the SK," he said. The Minister of Social Affairs also stated that PBNU has appointed a team from the Syuriah leadership, led by Mohammad Nuh, to finalize all SKs for PWNU and PCNU. Gus Ipul also urged all PWNU and PCNU to access information regarding the congress through official PBNU media and sources, advising them not to easily believe in news that is not factual. "Don't be easily deceived, don't easily believe hoaxes or news that may be misleading. We hope this is ignored, and all official processes carried out by PBNU are followed," he advised. He expressed gratitude to PWNU East Java, PCNU throughout East Java, and the Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas Islamic Boarding School for their participation and contribution in making the 35th NU Congress a success.
