Vietnam's Diplomacy Shifts Focus to Development Support, Resource Mobilization

Vietnam's diplomacy is entering a crucial transition, shifting from expanding relations and enhancing the country’s international standing to mobilizing resources for national development in the new era. This was highlighted by Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung during the 33rd Diplomatic Conference. Vietnam's enhanced international standing, capacity, and confidence after four decades of Doi Moi (Renewal) provide a solid foundation for the diplomatic sector not only to maximize external resources for national development but also to make active and responsible contributions to international peace and security. On August 1, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam urged the diplomatic sector to play a pioneering role by strengthening strategic research, improving forecasting, providing sound policy advice, and taking timely action to safeguard national interests and support development. Ambassadors from Laos, Japan, the Philippines, China, and South Africa also commended Vietnam's growing international standing, its foreign policy of independence and self-reliance, and its commitment to peace, cooperation, and sustainable development. Communist Party of Vietnam's Resolution No. 06 is providing fresh momentum for the country's foreign affairs amidst rapid global change and intensifying strategic competition among major powers, helping elevate Vietnam's international standing while expanding new opportunities for national development. This reflects Vietnam's approach to strategically manage its international relations and foster a favorable environment for its development while pursuing economic growth under its one-party system.
