Cambodia to Host International Conference on Combating Tech Scams

The Cambodian government has announced the hosting of the International Conference on Combating Online Scams (ICCOS) from September 23-24, 2026, in the capital city of Phnom Penh. Presided over by Prime Minister Hun Manet, the conference will be held under the theme "Together Towards Breaking the Chain and Ending Technology Scams." This initiative clearly demonstrates the Cambodian government's active efforts in combating online scams and its contribution to global efforts to tackle transnational crime, which has become a worldwide crisis. The conference is expected to bring together government leaders, high-ranking officials, international organizations, law enforcement agencies, cybersecurity experts, financial institutions, technology companies, and international partners from around the globe. In recent years, online scams, particularly investment and romance scams, have become a severe issue in Southeast Asia, including Cambodia. These fraudulent activities are often orchestrated by international criminal syndicates, defrauding victims of substantial amounts of money. The Cambodian government has been working to strengthen domestic legal frameworks and enhance international cooperation to combat such crimes.
