Pattaya Bars US Navy Personnel From Soi 6, Cannabis Shops

Pattaya authorities have designated Soi 6, Soi 6/1 and Soi 7 as “off-limits” areas for US Navy personnel during the upcoming visit of the USS Abraham Lincoln and two accompanying vessels to Chon Buri. The restrictions were discussed at a security and facilitation meeting at Pattaya City Hall on August 31. The meeting was attended by Pol Col Milin Pianchang, commander of Tourist Police Division 1’s Sub-Division 2, as well as administrative officials and representatives of the ships’ security teams. The US Navy carrier strike group, led by the USS Abraham Lincoln, is scheduled to dock in Chon Buri from September 2–6, with more than 5,000 personnel on board. Authorities estimate that around 60%, or approximately 3,000 personnel, will visit Pattaya and stay overnight during the port call. As part of measures to prevent crime and ensure safety, authorities have designated several areas and activities as off-limits to US Navy personnel: Soi 6, Soi 6/1 and Soi 7 Cannabis shops and pharmacies Water-based activities US Navy personnel will still be allowed to visit entertainment areas such as Walking Street, but must follow designated time restrictions and leave the area by 02:00. Pattaya authorities also stressed the need to prevent sexual exploitation, reminding businesses and the public that the purchase and sale of sexual services is illegal. Any sexual exploitation involving children or anyone under 18 is strictly prohibited. Officials also instructed businesses and service providers to charge fair prices and provide proper services, warning against taking advantage of tourists during the visit. Members of the public and tourists who witness suspicious activity or need assistance can contact the Tourist Police hotline at 1155, available 24 hours a day, or use the Thailand Tourist Police app to share their location with officers.
