Online Scam Hub Raided in Cambodia's Koh Kong; 9 Chinese Nationals Arrested, Landlord Identified as Provincial Court Official
An online scam operation suspected of operating from a villa in Cambodia's Koh Kong province has been busted, leading to the arrest of nine Chinese nationals. The landlord, a local court official, reportedly failed to comply with foreign resident management regulations. Seized items include numerous computers, mobile phones, and cash.
In a significant operation in Cambodia's southwestern Koh Kong province, authorities have raided a suspected online scam hub, arresting nine Chinese nationals. The bust highlights the ongoing issue of criminal syndicates utilizing Cambodian territory for illicit international operations. According to reports from local media outlet Kampuchea Thmey Security, the unified command force of Koh Kong province conducted a search of a villa in Stueng Veng commune, Khemrara Phoumin city. The property was believed to be serving as a base for online fraudulent activities. During the operation, nine foreign nationals, identified as Chinese, were detained. Reports indicate that many of them lacked proper identification documents, including passports. The owner of the property has been identified as Pin Sereyvibol, a 33-year-old Cambodian male working in administration at the Koh Kong Provincial Court. He reportedly leased the villa to a 37-year-old Chinese national named BAI RONGFENG, identified by passport number EQ0659673. Crucially, the lease agreement apparently failed to comply with regulations for managing foreign resident presence. Following a thorough inspection of the premises, law enforcement seized a substantial amount of evidence. This included 11 laptops, 49 mobile phones, 4 Wi-Fi routers, and $601 in cash. Additionally, a small package suspected to be illicit drugs and various charging equipment were recovered. The suspects have been transported to the Koh Kong Provincial Police headquarters for further questioning and legal proceedings. This incident underscores the dual nature of Cambodia's rapid development, attracting foreign investment while simultaneously facing challenges related to transnational crime. The sophistication of online scams necessitates enhanced international cooperation for effective countermeasures. Source: Kampuchea Thmey Security
