Cambodia Advocates for 'Responsible Innovation' at Asia-Pacific Media Forum

H.E. Prak Thaveak Amida, Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Information, has called for greater openness, responsible innovation, and cross-border cooperation to help shape the future of journalism in the Asia-Pacific region. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Asia-Pacific Media Forum (APMF) in Shenzhen, China, he outlined Cambodia's vision on communication cooperation and collaboration in the region. "Media today is much more than an observer of development. It is an important participant in shaping public understanding, connecting societies, and building confidence among nations," he stated. He urged the Asia-Pacific media community to uphold "truth over sensationalism, dialogue over division, and shared progress over narrow interests." He said the forum, held under the theme “Building a Path to Shared Prosperity for the Asia-Pacific Community: Media Consensus and Action,” serves as an important platform for dialogue, mutual learning, and practical cooperation, and can contribute meaningfully to transforming shared aspirations into concrete actions. "As we look ahead, Cambodia stands ready to work with friends and partners throughout the Asia-Pacific to promote greater openness, responsible innovation, professional media cooperation, and stronger information integrity, contributing to a peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous regional community," H.E. Prak Thaveak Amida underlined. He reaffirmed Cambodia's commitment to modernizing its national broadcasting infrastructure, bridging the digital divide, and working with regional partners to foster a secure, modern, and transparent media ecosystem. Cambodia also supports the strengthening of practical media cooperation across the Asia-Pacific region through professional exchanges, journalist training, content co-production, media and information literacy initiatives, dialogue on emerging technologies, and the sharing of experiences and best practices in promoting information integrity, he added. The forum, hosted by Xinhua News Agency, brought together more than 400 delegates from 42 countries and regions, representing over 200 mainstream media organisations, think tanks, embassies and consulates, United Nations agencies, and international organisations. On the occasion, the participants also launched the Shenzhen Consensus, a broad agreement aimed at advancing open cooperation, accelerating digital, intelligent, and green development, and strengthening collaboration among media organisations across the Asia-Pacific region.
