Thai PM to Welcome Myanmar President in August for Official Visit

Thailand's Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Srettha Thavisin, announced that the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Min Aung Hlaing, will make an official visit to Thailand from August 6-7, 2026. This marks his first official visit to Thailand since assuming the presidency. The Government Spokesperson stated that this visit underscores the importance of the Thai-Myanmar relationship as neighboring countries. It presents a significant opportunity to advance bilateral cooperation and achieve tangible results, particularly on issues directly impacting the security and quality of life of the people of both nations, as well as cooperation within the ASEAN framework. On August 6, an official welcoming ceremony for the Myanmar President will be held at Government House, including an inspection of the honor guard. Following this, the leaders will engage in small group and plenary discussions to exchange views on promoting relations and cooperation between Thailand and Myanmar on various issues of mutual importance. After the discussions, both sides will witness the signing and exchange of Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) between Thai and Myanmar agencies, along with a handover ceremony for assistance. In the evening, the Prime Minister will host an official dinner in honor of the Myanmar President. During this visit, the Thai Prime Minister and the Myanmar President will attend the opening ceremony of the "Thailand-Myanmar Business Forum 2026." This event is expected to serve as a crucial platform for promoting economic and investment cooperation between Thailand and Myanmar, as well as for strengthening collaboration networks among the private sectors of both countries.
