Vietnam Accelerates Digital Transformation of Administrative Procedures, Cutting Nearly 700 in Six Months

The Department of Administrative Reform (Ministry of Home Affairs) announced that in the first six months of 2026, the country cut 697 administrative procedures and simplified 673. Additionally, business registration conditions were reduced by 1,754, leading to a 53% reduction in processing time (a decrease of 51,247 out of 96,675 days) and a 54.6% cut in compliance costs compared to 2024. This initiative is part of the digital transformation (DX) strategy promoted by the government under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Streamlining and expediting cumbersome administrative procedures faced by citizens and businesses are considered essential for fostering economic growth and improving the convenience of public life. Specifically, comprehensive reforms in the vehicle registration system (effective from July 1, 2024) and amendments to the Notarization Law are aimed at promoting digitalization, consolidating data, and simplifying procedures. In the judicial sector, courts are also striving to enhance convenience for the public by digitizing processes. Under Vietnam's one-party system, such national DX initiatives tend to progress rapidly under strong government leadership. As regulatory reform and procedural efficiency are key to sustaining economic growth, administrative reforms are expected to continue. While economically dependent on China, Vietnam also seeks to chart its own course in technology adoption and DX promotion.
