Combating Online Gambling: 36 arrested in Yangon online gambling crackdown

Authorities have arrested 36 people, 13 men and 23 women, for allegedly operating and promoting illegal online gambling businesses in Yangon Region. The arrests began on August 21, 2026, when authorities raided a house in Dagon Myothit (North) Township following a tip-off. They arrested 25 people, including Aye Nyan Pai, who allegedly operated seven agent accounts for several online gambling websites. Further investigations led to additional arrests in Tachileik, Alone, Dawbon, Botataung, and South Okkalapa townships. Authorities also arrested people allegedly involved in operating the “99 Legends Online Game” and online 1D/2D/3D gambling businesses. Police seized computers, laptops, mobile phones, tablets and other related equipment, as well as two vehicles allegedly used in the operations. Authorities had also frozen 12 bank accounts containing about 3.968 billion kyats allegedly linked to the gambling activities. Legal action is being taken against the suspects and that investigations are continuing to identify and arrest others allegedly involved in the illegal online gambling operations.
