Pattani Special Task Force Arrests Fugitive at Islamic Boarding School

Pattani, Thailand – Security forces have apprehended an individual wanted on an arrest warrant at an Islamic boarding school (ponoh) in Pattani province. This operation was carried out by the Pattani Joint Special Operations Unit following intelligence from concerned citizens. Information indicated that a fugitive, identified as Muhammad Hafiq (surname withheld), who was subject to an arrest warrant (Warrant No. Ch.Ch. 42/69 dated August 21, 2569), had been taking refuge at Darul Taqwa Ponoh, commonly known as Kahyi Ponoh, located near the border of Pu Lo Pu Yo and Tuyong sub-districts in Nong Chik District. The security forces coordinated with the ponoh administration and community leaders, prioritizing the safety of students and staff within the institution. Subsequent investigations confirmed the suspect's presence at the ponoh. Following this, village leaders, community elders, and relevant parties engaged in negotiations. The authorities emphasized adherence to procedures with a focus on peaceful means, humanitarian principles, and respect for human rights, offering the suspect an opportunity to voluntarily surrender. Consequently, Muhammad Hafiq emerged, admitted to possessing a handgun and ammunition stored within his shelter, and agreed to be taken into custody. The operation received excellent cooperation from village leaders, community elders, ponoh administrators, religious figures, and local residents. All parties played a crucial role in coordination, fostering understanding, and supporting the smooth, safe, and non-violent execution of the operation. This collaboration highlights the collective effort of the public and various sectors in resolving issues through peaceful and humanitarian approaches, leading to the suspect's voluntary surrender to law enforcement and military personnel for legal proceedings.
