Tonle Sap Lake Forest Encroachment Sites Inspected for Reforestation Plan

The Tonle Sap Authority, led by its Deputy Secretary-General Mr. Chea Sokny and a working group, conducted on-site inspections on July 27-28, 2026, in Chikron and Sotnikum districts of Siem Reap province. The focus was on previously encroached land and degraded forest areas, to verify against plans for the reforestation of the flooded forest. The site inspections involved the cooperation of the governors and deputy governors of both districts, representatives from the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction and Land Registry, the Fisheries Administration, relevant technical units, commune chiefs, commune councils, and local administrative police chiefs, along with village chiefs concerned. The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology and the Tonle Sap Authority place significant importance on the protection and conservation of natural resources around the Tonle Sap Lake, particularly the flooded forests in Zone 3. Working groups are regularly dispatched to provinces surrounding the Tonle Sap Lake to monitor and collaborate with local authorities and relevant agencies in curbing various offenses that frequently occur in the area.
