Kantam Primary School, located in Kantam village, Prasat Sako'on commune, Siem Reap province, is slated to be upgraded to the 'Samdech Pichay Sena Tei Banh Kantam High School' in the near future, according to reports. The current primary school facility, consisting of one building with four classrooms, faces challenges due to its small site and susceptibility to flooding during the rainy season, hindering students' educational activities. Lieutenant General Dr. Ly Sovann, Deputy Director-General of the Logistics and Finance Department of the Ministry of National Defence, Director of Preah Ket Mealea Hospital, and head of the working group for Kantam commune, inspected the site designated for the high school on September 6. He stated that the current primary school's cramped conditions and seasonal flooding significantly impede the learning process. To address these difficulties, the working group has discussed plans to transform Kantam Primary School into a high school, thereby facilitating students' education, especially as there is currently no high school in Kantam commune. Lt. Gen. Ly Sovann further noted that the working group has already purchased land from local residents to expand the school grounds and has completed the surrounding fence, making the site highly suitable for a high school. The expansion aims to provide a more spacious and conducive learning environment. On the same day, prior to inspecting the high school site, Lt. Gen. Ly Sovann and his team visited the Sreyt Middle and Primary School in Kantam commune. They examined the old, dilapidated, and leaky roof of one of its school buildings, which causes hardship for students during the rainy season. The roof has since been repaired with the sponsorship of Lt. Gen. Ly Sovann and his working group. During the visit, he commended the teachers of Sreyt Middle and Primary School for their dedication to educating students and encouraged the students to focus on their studies, absorb knowledge at the foundational level, and pursue higher education for their own success, their families, and the nation, emphasizing that education is the pathway to a bright future. Also on the same day, Lt. Gen. Ly Sovann and his team inspected a 6.5m x 12m concrete house. This house was a donation from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, General Tea Seiha, and his wife, built for Sergeant Major Lon Sopha, a decorated soldier from the 128th Brigade who was injured in combat against invading Thai forces in 2025.
