Haier Group to Establish Cambodia's First Tablet Assembly Plant
Chinese electronics giant Haier Group plans to establish Cambodia's first tablet assembly plant, aiming to produce affordable devices for students and informal economy workers, bolstering the Kingdom's digital transformation efforts.
AKP Phnom Penh, July 16, 2026 — In a major boost to Cambodia’s digital ambitions, Chinese electronics giant Haier Group has announced plans to establish the Kingdom's first-ever tablet assembly plant. The initiative was unveiled by Mr. Diao Yunfeng, Vice Chairman of Haier Group, during a courtesy call with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet in Beijing on Wednesday, as the Prime Minister was on his official working visit to China from July 15-17. Mr. Diao highlighted Haier’s expansive global footprint, noting that the company operates in over 60 countries with a user base of approximately 44 million worldwide. Turning to the new venture, the Vice Chairman revealed that Haier Group is partnering with a local Cambodian company to build the assembly facility. The primary objective of the plant is to produce affordable tablets tailored for: Students to facilitate distance learning and expand access to digital education tools; Informal economy workers to enhance digital literacy and inclusion. In reply, Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet warmly welcomed the investment, congratulating Haier Group on its global success. He emphasised that the Royal Government of Cambodia remains highly committed to supporting foreign investors through a variety of robust incentive policies designed to ensure business success. The Prime Minister highly praised the affordable tablet initiative, noting its critical alignment with national goals. "This project will significantly contribute to promoting digital transformation in the education sector and advancing human resource development in Cambodia," stated Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet. To ensure the project's seamless execution, the Prime Minister encouraged Haier Group to deepen its collaboration with local partners, relevant ministries, and Royal Government institutions, allowing them to fully leverage Cambodia's favourable investment incentives and expand their footprint in the country.
