Cambodia Cracks Down on Illegal Timber Processing Sites in Wildlife Sanctuary

Four illegal timber processing sites have been cracked down on within the Preah Roka Wildlife Sanctuary in Preah Vihear Province, northeastern Cambodia. This action is part of the country's ongoing efforts to protect its natural resources. According to the Preah Vihear Provincial Department of Environment, on August 8, ranger forces, with the permission of the prosecutor, raided four sites in Pou village, Tbaeng Mean Chey district. One of these locations was confirmed to be actively engaged in illegal timber processing, while the other three showed no signs of illegal activity at the time of the raid. During the operation, 1,464 cubic meters of processed timber of various types were seized. Additionally, 24 logs, two power saws, one wood cutting machine, and logging equipment were confiscated. These seized items have been secured at the Ou Kock ranger station for further legal proceedings. The Preah Vihear Provincial Department of Environment stated that they will continue to cooperate closely with relevant provincial authorities and the prosecutor's office to strengthen law enforcement against natural resource crimes. The department expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation in reporting illegal activities and urged continued collaboration to protect natural resources and prevent infringements. The Cambodian government has identified the protection of forest resources and the eradication of illegal logging and processing as urgent priorities. This crackdown serves as a testament to their commitment.
