Bangsamoro Government Intensifies Fight Against Child Malnutrition
The Bangsamoro government in the Philippines is intensifying efforts to combat the nation's highest malnutrition rates. A recent summit acknowledged improvements in child stunting but noted it remains above the national average.
The Bangsamoro government and its partners have stepped up efforts to combat child malnutrition after regional officials said the region continues to post the country’s highest malnutrition rate. The issue was tackled during a two-day nutrition summit in Cotabato City attended by officials from the Bangsamoro Ministry of Health, local governments, the Department of Science and Technology, the United Nations Children’s Fund and the Zuellig Family Foundation. Health Minister Kadil M. Sinolinding, Jr. said child stunting in the region declined to 33.6% in 2019 from 42.5% in 2015 but remains among the highest nationwide.
