Hanoi Proposes 6 New National Railway Lines to Revamp Capital Region's Transport Network

The Vietnam Railway Administration has submitted a master plan for the railway network in the Hanoi capital region to the Ministry of Construction, seeking its approval. This plan proposes the construction of 6 new major railway lines in addition to the 5 existing ones. This large-scale expansion of the railway network aims to alleviate chronic traffic congestion and improve the convenience of public transportation in Hanoi, a city experiencing rapid urbanization and population growth. The new lines are expected to strengthen connectivity not only within Hanoi but also with surrounding areas, contributing to more efficient logistics. Large-scale infrastructure investments in such a context can have implications for expanding regional influence, in addition to boosting the domestic economy. Specific routes, construction timelines, and budgets for this plan are expected to be determined after review by the Ministry of Construction.
