Senate Robbery: Police Probe Theft of IBC Equipment

Police have launched an investigation into a robbery incident at the Philippine Senate compound where equipment belonging to state-run IBC (Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation) was stolen. The incident occurred yesterday within the Senate complex in Pasay City. Authorities are currently searching for a male and female suspect identified as "Itik" and "Beverly." The suspects are believed to have gained entry by cutting through the rear steel fence of the Senate complex with a saw. The stolen items include a television set, two printers, two folding long tables, an extension cable, three pocket WiFi devices, a stool, and some office supplies, all taken from the IBC tent. The IBC tent is situated near the Senate's material recovery facility. The incident was reported to the Senate's security office by three media personnel from IBC shortly after 5 a.m. The police chief stated that security at the Senate compound remains intact despite the incident. This incident may highlight vulnerabilities in the Philippines' public broadcasting infrastructure and challenges in maintaining security around government facilities. It also raises questions about the need for investment in domestic infrastructure and public services, particularly in a country where remittances from overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) significantly support the economy.
