Thailand Intensifies Crackdown on Forest Encroachment for Commercial Farming, Reclaiming Over 7,000 Rai

Thailand's Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has inspected the progress of crackdowns on forest encroachment and illegal commercial farming activities within the Saiyaphrakarn Forest Reserve. This initiative is part of broader efforts to protect valuable forest resources and rectify the unjust occupation of land through illegal means. According to the ministry's announcement, eight cases of illegal activities have been prosecuted to date. As a result, over 7,000 rai (approximately 1,120 hectares) of forest land are expected to be returned to the authorities. The reclaimed land is anticipated to be utilized for restoring its original forest functions and for sustainable conservation efforts. This inspection aims to demonstrate a strict stance against illegal activities and enhance the effectiveness of forest conservation policies. The Thai government is striving for a balance between economic development and environmental preservation, and these intensified crackdowns are seen as concrete actions towards that goal. Surveillance and enforcement against similar illegal activities are expected to continue.
