Environment Minister Oversees Probe into Suspect E-Waste Containers at Laem Chabang Port

CHONBURI: Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin on Monday chaired a joint inspection of cargo containers suspected of violating the Basel Convention on the control of hazardous waste, as Thai authorities pressed a crackdown on illegal e-waste and dangerous waste imports. The operation took place at 10 a.m. on September 14th, 2026, at the Laem Chabang Port in Chonburi province. The inspection, which saw the participation of officials from various relevant ministries, was conducted within the port facilities. This move signifies Thailand's heightened scrutiny on the import of hazardous waste. The Thai government is committed to taking a firm stance against such illegal activities to protect the environment and public health. The Basel Convention aims to regulate the transboundary movements of hazardous wastes and their disposal.
