Cambodia and China Sign MOU on Transport Sector Capacity Building

On the afternoon of September 21, 2026, during the Sustainable Global Transport Forum, H.E. Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia, held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Li Xiaopeng, Minister of Transport of the People's Republic of China. The meeting was attended by relevant leaders from both ministries. During this bilateral meeting, the ministers of both countries also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation in capacity building within the transport sector. The primary objective of this MOU is to further promote and strengthen cooperation between the two ministries in capacity building, and in the exchange of experience, knowledge, and new technologies related to the transport sector, logistics, and public works construction experiments. This agreement is expected to contribute to the modernization and efficiency of Cambodia's transport infrastructure. China has long been a key partner in Cambodia's infrastructure development, providing significant support for construction projects, particularly in roads, bridges, and ports. This MOU is noteworthy as it extends beyond mere infrastructure construction to deepen cooperation in soft aspects such as human resource development and technology transfer. It is anticipated that Cambodia will aim for the sustainable development of its own transport sector and strengthen its position as a logistics hub in the region through this collaboration.
