Vietnam's Independence Day: Show Blends History and Culture, Attracting Audiences

During Vietnam's Independence Day celebrations on September 2nd, the "Đất nước thiên hùng ca" (Land of a Thousand Epic Songs) show at Vinpearl Theatre Ocean City has become a cultural hotspot for families and tourists. The 75-minute performance features over 100 artists, combining various art forms like circus and dance with advanced stage technology. The show, which has been running for nearly two months, draws inspiration from historical periods, stories, and cultural elements of Vietnam. Each segment is presented through dance, circus, music, lighting, and a multi-level stage system. The early parts of the show frequently feature the "Dragon and Fairy" (Rồng Tiên) imagery, a significant element in Vietnamese mythology. Cultural aspects such as rice grains, land, and community life are also depicted through stage design and the movements of the performers. These scenes utilize numerous props and projection screens for rapid scene changes. Grand spectacles incorporating water, fire, music, and dynamic movement are also part of the show. The use of multiple stage layers allows artists to perform at different positions and heights simultaneously. Alongside technological advancements, the performers and artists remain central to the show's appeal. The 75-minute production involves over 100 participants from various disciplines, including acting, dance, and circus. The show has attracted many families during the National Day holiday. For children, the stage imagery and stories provide topics for discussion with their parents. Ms. Thu Thảo, a visitor from Hanoi, shared, "My child asked more about the Dragon and Fairy stories. Visual images on stage, compared to just reading in books, help children visualize better and ask more questions." Some segments bring performers and effects closer to the audience area, rather than confining all activity to the main stage. This staging approach enhances interaction and offers varied viewing angles throughout the performance. Towards the end, the stage transitions to depict Vietnam in peacetime, concluding with a grand scene featuring the national flag. The "Đất nước thiên hùng ca" show continues to be performed at Vinpearl Theatre Ocean City during the National Day period. Until September 30th, special ticket policies are in place, including a 20% discount for students, the elderly, and individuals with contributions to the revolution.
