Cambodia Trains Farmers on Organic Rice Production Techniques Amidst Climate Change

A training program is underway in Preah Vihear province, Cambodia, to impart climate-resilient organic rice production techniques to farmers. This initiative, running from mid-August to December 2026, targets 240 model farmers selected from eight agricultural communities. The training focuses on "Rice Production Techniques Resilient to Climate Elements" and is conducted at eight demonstration farm sites. Led by the Directorate General of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, along with the Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Preah Vihear, through the "Kouch Project" supported by the Green Climate Fund, the farmers are acquiring practical skills. These include rice seed selection and purification, land preparation, row planting, soil fertility improvement, water and weed management, pest control, biological pest management techniques, harvesting techniques, and post-harvest handling. The 240 model farmers will implement the learned techniques at the eight demonstration farms and will share this knowledge with farmers living near each demonstration site. The project emphasizes learning through direct practice and sharing, aiming to enable farmers to reduce losses, manage climate-induced challenges, and produce high-quality and high-volume organic rice that meets market demand.
