Cambodia Seizes Hundreds of Electronic Devices in Bavet, Including Suspected Smuggled Goods
Authorities in Bavet city, Svay Rieng province, Cambodia, have seized a large quantity of electronic devices, including goods suspected of evading customs duties. The customs department is conducting a detailed investigation into these items, seen as part of a broader crackdown on illicit trade within the domestic market.
On September 1, 2026, under the coordination of Mr. Peng Porsal, Governor of Svay Rieng Province, and with legal procedural coordination from H.E. Kham Sophary, Prosecutor of the Svay Rieng Provincial Court, a joint force led by Mr. Men Eng, Deputy Governor of Svay Rieng Province, conducted a search and inspection of electronic equipment at House No. K12, Borey El Tara, Bavet Kandal Village, Bavet City, Svay Rieng Province. The operation involved the participation and cooperation of Colonel Lay Channy, Deputy Commissioner of Provincial Police; Mr. Men Chanra, Governor of Bavet City; and technical officials from the Svay Rieng Provincial Customs and Excise Branch. As a result of the on-site inspection at the aforementioned location, authorities discovered a large quantity of electronic materials and equipment. Specifically: - Ground Floor: 32 desktop computers, 10 CPU casings, and 48 power supply units. - First Floor: 148 desktop computers, 42 CPU casings and 5 boxes, 6 boxes of desktop computer monitors, 12 boxes of headphones, 9 units of WiFi routers, and 12 boxes of WiFi cables. - Second Floor: 250 desktop computers, 62 CPU casings, 16 boxes of keyboards, 4 Sony 55-inch televisions, 7 boxes of cameras, 30 AD116 speakers, and a large quantity of other electronic materials. These discovered materials and electronic equipment were handed over to Mr. Kong Tay, the homeowner, for temporary management and safekeeping, with strict prohibition against any movement or use without authorization. Separately, goods suspected of evading customs duties, identified by officials from the Provincial Customs and Excise Branch, include: - A total of 579 computers (comprising 15 laptops, 149 LED monitors, 3 curved monitors, 10 23.8-inch All-in-One computers, 295 24-inch All-in-One computers, and 107 27-inch All-in-One computers). - A total of 525 mobile phones. Currently, all the above goods suspected of evading customs duties have been temporarily stored at the Bavet Customs and Excise Office premises, under the careful inspection and monitoring of technical officials. They await further decisions and actions from H.E. the Minister Delegate attached to the Prime Minister, Director General of the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia, in accordance with legal procedures.
