Ho Chi Minh City to Install Smart Cameras on Key Roads, Offer Free Public Wi-Fi

Ho Chi Minh City is moving forward with plans to install smart cameras on its key roads, aiming to modernize urban management and enhance the convenience of citizens' lives. In parallel, the provision of free high-speed Wi-Fi in public spaces is also expected to be promoted. The introduction of this smart camera network is intended to improve urban safety and efficiency, including alleviating traffic congestion, deterring crime, and enabling rapid response to emergencies. Vietnam has experienced rapid economic growth and urbanization in recent years, making the advancement of urban management through infrastructure development and technology utilization an urgent task. Furthermore, the free provision of public Wi-Fi is expected to contribute to bridging the information gap and invigorating the digital economy. In particular, it could broaden opportunities for learning and information gathering for young people and students. This can also be seen as part of the "Digital Nation" initiative promoted by the Communist Party of Vietnam. Under Vietnam's one-party system, large-scale infrastructure investments and technology adoptions led by the government tend to proceed relatively quickly. However, concerns regarding privacy protection and data security may also arise concurrently, making the specific operational framework and public communication in the future crucial. Ho Chi Minh City's current initiative demonstrates its approach to solving the challenges of urbanization by leveraging technology.
