Voter Groups Object to Lawsuit Over Gibran's Academic Credentials
Pro-Prabowo-Gibran volunteer groups have filed objections to a lawsuit filed by Denny Indrayana and others at the Constitutional Court regarding Vice Presidential candidate Gibran Rakabuming's academic credentials. The groups argue that Gibran's qualifications were already deemed valid by the General Election Commission (KPU) and that the lawsuit attempts to delegitimize the people's will.
On Friday (25/9/2026), a number of volunteers affiliated with the Indonesian Voter Aspirations House (RAPI), a coalition of volunteers from the Prabowo-Gibran National Campaign Team, submitted a letter of objection to the Constitutional Court (MK) regarding the case numbered 01/PHPU.PRES-XXIV/2026. The lawsuit, filed by Denny Indrayana and his group, challenges the academic credentials of Vice Presidential candidate Gibran Rakabuming. Derek Loupatty, the Acting Chairman of Gibran Fans, stated that the plaintiffs' arguments are illogical. He pointed out that the General Election Commission (KPU), as the organizer of the election, had declared Gibran eligible from the initial verification stage. "It has been declared complete and has gone through several stages that occurred at the KPU, which is the institution with the authority. Namely, from the registration of candidate pairs, the drawing of lot numbers, even the verification of presidential and vice-presidential candidate requirements, it was declared complete," Derek told reporters in Jakarta on Friday (25/9/2026). According to Loupatty, Gibran's appointment as vice president was also finalized after the MK decided on the election result dispute case that was previously filed by each competing candidate pair against Prabowo-Gibran. "For us, the first requirement, according to the MK's decision, is that it became final when the MK conducted the trial for the 2024 Presidential Election dispute case, which was filed by candidate number 1 and candidate number 3, and it has been rejected," Derek emphasized. Therefore, he suspects that the plaintiffs' lawsuit is merely an attempt to delegitimize the people's votes that elected Prabowo-Gibran. "The people have given a legitimate victory of 58.9% of the vote to the Prabowo and Gibran candidate pair," he stated. Meanwhile, Chairman of Bara JP, Frans Ansanay, also questioned the legitimacy of the plaintiffs in the election result dispute case. According to Frans, their lawsuit should be rejected by the MK because they were not participants in the 2024 presidential election. "These petitioners do not have legal standing to file a petition," Frans said. He also expressed concern that if this case continues, it could trigger similar prolonged disputes from participants in legislative and regional elections. Based on these considerations, Frans is optimistic that the MK will not proceed with the election result dispute case that implicates the eldest son of the seventh President, Jokowi. "I still believe the Constitutional Court will make the fairest decision to answer that the lawsuit against the Vice President's status will not be granted," Frans asserted.
