Vietnam Eases State Inspection for Imported Foods, Maintains Safety Standards

Vietnam has announced a new policy regarding state inspections for imported food products. According to the announcement, imported foods that have been issued a product announcement certificate (Giấy tiếp nhận đăng ký bản công bố sản phẩm) will be exempted from state inspections for food safety. This measure aims to enhance the efficiency of food safety management and strengthen oversight across the entire supply chain. However, this exemption is not unconditional. Products that have received any safety warnings or are specifically classified as "health supplements" will continue to be subject to strict state inspections. For health supplements, separate procedures for product registration and announcement are mandated. This decision reflects Vietnam's commitment to reviewing its food safety management approach and building a more effective and efficient system. It is also aligned with efforts to resolve legal issues through dialogue, strengthen management throughout the supply chain, and promote the simplification of administrative procedures and decentralization of authority. Establishing a transparent supply chain management mechanism is crucial for ensuring food safety going forward. In recent years, Vietnam has seen an increase in food imports, driven by its rapid economic growth. Ensuring food safety is a key priority for the government in protecting the health of its citizens.
