A man in Phnom Penh was attacked and his tuk-tuk was damaged while attempting to collect a debt from a friend who had pawned his motorcycle. The victim has filed a police report.
In Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, a man was attacked and his Indian-made tuk-tuk was further damaged while attempting to collect a debt from a friend who had previously pawned his motorcycle. The incident occurred around 10:20 PM on July 14, 2024, on a dirt road in Prek Thnal village, Stung Meanchey 2 commune, Meanchey district. According to the owner of the damaged tuk-tuk, the incident began when he went to confront a friend who had borrowed his motorcycle and pawned it over five months ago. The friend had promised to repay the money in exchange for the owner not filing a police report. Upon arriving at the scene, the friend and his associates allegedly attacked the tuk-tuk driver with sticks and knives. The driver fled in fear, but the assailants pursued him. When they failed to catch him, they returned to the scene and further vandalized his tuk-tuk before escaping. The victim stated that he had only known the perpetrators for a short period. The friend had borrowed his NEX motorcycle, pawned it, and promised to repay the money without involving the police. However, the victim was met with violence when he came to collect the debt.
