Cambodia Encourages Russian Investors, Anti-Corruption Body Pledges Protection Through Bilateral Cooperation

Om Yuen Tieng, head of Cambodia's Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU), has reaffirmed his commitment to legally protecting the lawful interests of Russian investors in Cambodia during a forum held in Russia. He emphasized that Cambodia's legal framework and regulations ensure transparency and integrity, safeguarding the rights of businesspeople through close and honest dialogue and problem-solving mechanisms between the government and the private sector. Speaking at a discussion on "Protecting Business Rights and Investment" at the 11th Eastern Economic Forum in Russia, the ACU chief stated that strengthened ties between the anti-corruption bodies of Cambodia and Russia would jointly protect the investments of Russian investors on Cambodian soil, thus encouraging investment from Russia. A press release from the ACU on August 7 noted that the head of ACU "also affirmed that the relationship between the PGO (Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation), the institution leading anti-corruption efforts in the Russian Federation, and the ACU, which has been strengthened, is a clear message that all investments from the Russian Federation will be jointly protected, so we encourage choosing Cambodia for investment." According to the ACU, during a bilateral meeting between the head of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office and Minister Delegate Om Yuen Tieng, key joint activities were agreed upon for a two-year cooperation work program (2027-2028). These include exchanging experiences in national and international anti-corruption efforts, coordinating institutional stances on the international stage, enhancing capacity in combating money laundering, financial investigations, and the use of digital technology – AI in anti-corruption work. The agreement also covers professional skills training in both Cambodia and Russia, and participation in international youth competitions under the theme "Together Against Corruption" to promote awareness among young people about the importance of fighting corruption for the future of the country.
