Cambodian Ambassador to Korea Requests Additional Scholarship Quotas for Students

On Friday, September 4, 2026, H.E. Khun Phonrattanah, Cambodian Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, held a working meeting with Mr. Kim Yong-ha, President of Konyang University, in Nonsan, Chungcheongnam-do, Republic of Korea. During the meeting, President Kim Yong-ha informed the Ambassador that Konyang University is a private institution specializing in medicine and the military industry. He also highlighted past cooperation projects between the university and the Cambodian Ministry of Health, including an eye care training program for medical professionals at Ang Duong Hospital and a scholarship program for Cambodian students to pursue further medical studies at the university. H.E. Ambassador Khun Phonrattanah expressed his gratitude to the university for the completed projects in Cambodia. Furthermore, he put forward three initiatives: 1. Requesting the university to consider the possibility of providing additional scholarship quotas for Cambodian students. 2. Establishing a nursing training program. 3. Creating a cooperative relationship with the National Defence University of Cambodia. This engagement signifies an effort to bolster educational ties between Cambodia and South Korea, particularly in critical fields like healthcare and potentially defense-related training, which are vital for Cambodia's national development.
