Palace Questions VP Sara Duterte's Sanity Over Resignation Call

Malacañang on Friday questioned the state of mind of Vice President Sara Duterte when she called for the resignation of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. Presidential spokesperson Jose Antonio Bautista questioned if Duterte was in a "lucid interval" or "thinking properly" due to "sleepless nights and anxiety." Bautista asked why Duterte wanted the President to step down immediately, urging citizens to discern who the true leader for the nation is versus one who is only for themselves. He also countered Duterte's claim that the arrest of former Speaker Martin Romualdez was a "drama," citing the swift action by Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, and suggesting that the real drama was outside the Quezon City Hall of Justice. Furthermore, Bautista dismissed Duterte's accusations of drug abuse against Marcos, pointing out that her own father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, admitted to using marijuana and abusing fentanyl. He questioned if Duterte had ever called her father an "addict" when he admitted his drug use, implying she should not attribute her family's actions to President Marcos Jr. Bautista criticized Duterte for being vocal against the President but silent on her own cases, such as the Pax Silica project and rainwater collection, and her own corruption allegations. He also brought up former President Duterte's admission of stealing from public coffers, asking who benefited from the alleged stolen funds. The Palace official emphasized that they were not silencing the Vice President but were urging her to speak about her own cases and the impeachment trial.
