Cambodian Information Minister, Smart Axiata CEO Discuss Digital Transformation, Media Cooperation
Cambodia's Information Minister and the CEO of major telecom operator Smart Axiata held discussions on digital transformation, telecommunications infrastructure, and media cooperation. The government emphasized promoting the digital economy through public-private partnerships and called for strengthened collaboration with private enterprises.
AKP Phnom Penh, August 6, 2026 -- Cambodian Information Minister H.E. Neth Pheaktra met with Mr. Ritesh Kumar Singh, CEO of mobile operator Smart Axiata Co., Ltd., on Thursday to discuss strengthening cooperation in the information sector, telecommunications, and digital transformation. During the meeting at the Ministry's headquarters, Mr. Singh highlighted Smart Axiata's role as a leading telecommunications operator in Cambodia. He noted the company's active contributions to the country's socio-economic development through continuous investments to expand telecommunications infrastructure, introduce modern digital technologies, and create job opportunities. In response, H.E. Neth Pheaktra commended Smart Axiata for its efforts in advancing Cambodia's digital transition, boosting economic growth, and improving public living standards. He underscored that the Royal Government of Cambodia, under the leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, places a strong emphasis on digital transformation and building a digital economy by fostering close public-private partnerships. The Minister added that the Ministry of Information highly values collaboration with the private sector. He encouraged Smart Axiata to partner with the Ministry in promoting professional, ethical, and responsible information dissemination, combating misinformation, and advancing the safe and effective use of digital technologies. H.E. Neth Pheaktra expressed confidence that Smart Axiata will continue to deepen its cooperation with the Ministry and relevant institutions to develop the media and audiovisual sectors in line with the Royal Government’s digital society policies.
