Cambodia Presents Evidence of Thai Military Incursions, Appeals for Truth in Contested Areas

On August 7, 2026, Cambodian Minister of Information, Net Pheaktra, took to social media to present concrete evidence of Thai military incursions into Cambodian territory. The Minister pointed out that the remnants of air raids by F-16 and Gripen fighter jets, unexploded ordnance and cluster bombs, damage inflicted upon ancient Khmer temples such as Preah Vihear and Ta Krabey, the destruction of citizens' homes and property, and the deaths and injuries of civilians are all silent witnesses to the reality in contested areas. Furthermore, he stated that images and documents recording acts of looting of citizens' property, the placement of containers, the deployment of barbed wire, road blockades, and the creation of fait accompli situations in disputed areas continue to reveal the lingering consequences of armed force. Minister Pheaktra emphasized, "One can deny various matters, but bomb craters cannot be denied. Propaganda can alter narratives, but it cannot alter the scars of destruction. Statements can divert attention, but they cannot bring the victims back to life or restore destroyed homes." He asserted that this evidence must be preserved, recorded, verified, and presented to the international community to ensure that truth is protected, accountability is guaranteed, and the use of force to create new realities on the ground does not become a substitute for international law.
