YBS drivers to be designated as expelled workers if they charge extra fares after carrying passengers, regional government instructs

Yangon Region Public Transport Supervision Committee (YRTC) Joint Secretary U Lian Kyaw Myint said that the regional government has instructed that YBS drivers who carry passengers and charge extra fares will be designated as expelled workers. He said this at an awareness and discussion meeting for YBS drivers who have violated rules three or more times by driving competitively and opening doors, which was held at the YRTC headquarters on September 24. U Lian Kyaw Myint, Joint Secretary of YRTC, said that drivers are the most important people in the YBS world, transporting about 1.7 million passengers daily, and that the lives, property, and safety of the traveling public are entrusted to the drivers, making them the most important people for ensuring road safety. He stated that due to competitive driving and door-opening driving, passengers are falling from vehicles and losing their lives. In case of an accident, YRTC will revoke the driver's license and designate them as an expelled worker, and they will no longer be able to work with them. He said that accidental accidents will not result in fatalities, but only high-speed driving can lead to fatalities. He added that since YBS vehicles are large vehicles, violations on main roads are clearly visible. Furthermore, he stated that driving under the influence of drugs is not permitted. He said that the regional government has instructed that drivers who carry passengers and charge extra fares will be designated as expelled workers. He added that if a driver is to be designated as an expelled worker, it will only be permitted after a thorough investigation and questioning by an inquiry tribunal, and after the submitted matters are discussed and decided upon at a management meeting.
