Cambodia's Kep Province Clears 25 Unauthorised Stalls on Railway Land

On July 30, 2026, officials from the Railway Maintenance Department of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, in cooperation with the authorities of Damnak Choeur district, Kampot province, implemented measures to dismantle 25 unauthorized stalls that had been constructed on railway land. These structures were located in Antong Sa village, Pong Tuek commune, Damnak Choeur district. Mr. Thin Sina, Deputy Governor of Damnak Choeur district, representing Governor Mr. Chang Chai, addressed the citizens and vendors, stating that the authorities do not prohibit people from selling goods or earning income. However, he stressed the importance of adhering to the law. He requested that order and proper arrangements be maintained, avoiding haphazard tent or stall constructions on public land and railway reserves, which require protection and preservation. This operation underscores the government's commitment to maintaining public infrastructure and ensuring safety, while also raising questions about the balance between economic activities of citizens and the enforcement of regulations. Such actions are often seen in areas undergoing development, where informal settlements can encroach on public spaces and vital infrastructure corridors.
