Environmental Impact Assessment findings for 1390 MW LNG and Waste Heat Power Plant transmission line project presented to Ayeyarwady Region Chief Minister

The findings of the environmental impact assessment process for the transmission line project of the 1390 MW LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) and waste heat power plant in Myaing Gyi, Shwe Taung Yan, Pyu Zay District, Ayeyarwady Region, were presented to the Ayeyarwady Region Chief Minister, it has been learned. It has been learned that Unique Environment Myanmar Co., Ltd presented the matter on the afternoon of July 24 in Meeting Room (1) of the Region Government Office. Regarding the environmental impact assessment process for the transmission line project, which includes a 189-kilometer long 500 kV transmission line from Myaing Gyi to the Hlaing Thar Yar main substation in Thanlyin Township, Yangon Region, and a 69.9-kilometer long 230 kV transmission line from Myaing Gyi to the Athut substation, the project's potential impact areas were identified. During the environmental impact study process, air, soil, and water quality measurements, noise and vibration measurements, biodiversity studies, collection of socio-economic baseline data, environmental impact assessment and mitigation measures, and the environmental management plan and future actions were explained, according to a statement released by the regional government in relation to the presentation to the Chief Minister. Following this, attendees presented explanations sector by sector, and in response to the presentations and discussions from the relevant departments, the Region Chief Minister stated, "As the 1390 MW LNG power plant is to be constructed in the Myaing Gyi area of Shwe Taung Yan Township, this is a major project that will be of great benefit to the state and the region upon its completion. As it is a large-scale project, it must be implemented sector by sector, and challenges in the work must be addressed collaboratively. Responsible officials are also requested to maintain continuous contact with our government regarding the progress of the work, and necessary support will be provided in accordance with procedures." The Myaing Gyi project is a key national-level project aimed at achieving 100% electricity distribution across the country's power system network. It is a project that can generate stable base load power at affordable rates to ensure the stability of the national power system. As of today, 24.4% of the project work has been completed, and efforts are underway to achieve full completion, according to the government's statement.
