Palace Fully Backs BARMM Peace, Development Ahead of Polls

MAGUINDANAO DEL NORTE, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reaffirmed the national government’s commitment to the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao — particularly the conduct of the region’s first parliamentary elections — during the Bawat Bayan Makikinabang (BBM) and the Bangsamoro Government Convergence Program held at the Philippine Army Headquarters in Datu Odin Sinsuat in this province. Special Assistant to the President Anton Lagdameo Jr. was present during the program and introduced President Marcos before government officials, BARMM leaders and local stakeholders. In his address, the president emphasized the importance of sustaining the partnership between the national government and the Bangsamoro government, citing mutual trust and shared responsibility as foundations for achieving lasting peace and development in the region. Marcos highlighted the government’s support for the upcoming BARMM parliamentary elections, stating that the administration remains committed to ensuring that the electoral process proceeds as scheduled. He noted that amendments to the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) were enacted following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the territorial composition of BARMM, providing the legal and administrative adjustments needed for an orderly, credible, and inclusive election. “We are determined that we will push through with the second Monday of September,” Marcos said, referring to the scheduled date of the first Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections on September 14. The president said the elections would bring the region closer to achieving its goal of having a duly elected parliament, which he described as an important step in fulfilling the democratic aspirations of the Bangsamoro people. Aside from election-related matters, Marcos also discussed the implementation of the Bawat Barangay Makikinabang Program, under which each barangay in BARMM will receive P200,000. Half of the allocation will support educational assistance, including aid for five Presidential Scholars in every barangay, while the remaining amount will fund community-identified priorities. He said the program aims to expand opportunities for young learners and provide support to communities across the region. The president also acknowledged the delivery of various frontline services by BARMM ministries and offices, including assistance programs for local beneficiaries. He cited government efforts such as the Iftar Program, social services, medical missions, and support for Hajj registrants as part of initiatives aimed at respecting and supporting the cultural and religious traditions of Muslim communities. Marcos reiterated that the administration will continue working with the Bangsamoro government to promote peace, strengthen governance, and improve the quality of life of residents in the region. “Together, let us build a Bagong Pilipinas where every Filipino lives with dignity, realizes their aspirations, and shares in lasting peace and inclusive progress,” he said.
