ASEAN+3 Foreign Ministers Agree to Strengthen Regional Cooperation; Vietnamese FM Participates

On July 23, 2024, within the framework of the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and related meetings held in Manila, Philippines, Vietnam's Politburo member and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Le Hoai Trung, attended the ASEAN+3 (Japan, China, South Korea) Foreign Ministers' Meeting. The meeting discussed key issues and directions for cooperation within the ASEAN+3 framework. Major agenda items included joint responses to crude oil supply challenges, policy recommendations on ASEAN+3 economic forecasts and crisis response measures, and ASEAN+3 tourism cooperation to promote sustainable and inclusive growth. Participating countries agreed to emphasize ASEAN+3 unity, connectivity, and innovation, continuing to pursue inclusive and sustainable development. This aligns with Vietnam's prioritized regional cooperation and economic growth strategies. Under its one-party system, Vietnam prioritizes economic growth and seeks to stabilize supply chains and expand market access, particularly through strengthening relations with neighboring countries. This meeting can be seen as part of Vietnam's diplomatic and economic strategy to pursue regional stability and prosperity.
