Vietnam Focuses on Semiconductor Talent to Integrate into Global Supply Chains

Vietnam is intensifying its focus on semiconductor industry talent development to enhance its competitiveness within the global technology supply chain. The semiconductor industry presents an opportunity for Vietnam to leap forward in the global technology value chain. However, opportunities within the value chain, particularly in design, packaging, testing, and research and development, can only translate into competitive advantage if coupled with high-quality human resources, research capabilities, and mastery of technology. Vietnam aims to accelerate its integration into the international semiconductor supply chain by nurturing talent in these critical areas. Domestically, universities in Hanoi and other institutions are offering new opportunities for students in the electronics and semiconductor industries, sparking growing interest. This is seen as a crucial step towards realizing Vietnam's ambition to become the 'Silicon Valley' for semiconductors in Southeast Asia. Furthermore, bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Japan in the semiconductor sector is progressing across five key tasks, strengthening technology transfer and joint research. This highlights the significant role of international partnerships in Vietnam's efforts to adopt advanced technologies and bolster its industrial base. The Vietnamese government has positioned the development of the semiconductor industry as a national strategy, promoting AI and innovation. These initiatives underscore Vietnam's aspiration to be more than just a manufacturing hub, aiming to establish a significant presence in high-value design and research and development as well.
