Bad smell from rubber factory, local residents suffer health problems

Mekong, September 22 Bad smells emanating from a rubber factory on Aye Yae Myan Road, in the Fan Min village tract of Tachilek Township, Shan State East, are spreading to nearby villages and some wards in Tachilek city, causing health problems for local residents, according to local residents. Due to the bad smell, symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, and difficulty breathing are occurring, and children and the elderly are suffering more, said a resident of Yan Aung Myan ward. "It's not an exaggeration. It smells very bad towards the Houng Lik airport as well. When evening comes, we can't even stay outside the house. I even get a headache. We have to close the doors and stay inside the house," he said. Local residents said that bad smells are also coming from Houng Lik, the bypass road of Pa Yan, Pa Yan 3 market, Pa Sat, and Lue Sa Ton. Bad smells from the rubber factory are particularly strong in the evening and around 7 PM, spreading to Mae Yan, Mae Hote, and Wan Long villages near Fan Min village, as well as to Pa Sat at the entrance of the city, and sometimes to Yan Aung Myan ward, according to local residents. "Last night it smelled terribly, the smell was dizzying. It's quite bad towards the Pa Yan bypass road. It smells more and more at night. I can't sleep. It's been smelling for a long time. It gets stronger at night," said a local resident.
