Vietnam Busts Large Cross-Border Scam Ring, Arrests 40
Lai Châu Province Police in northern Vietnam have busted a Vietnamese scam group of 40 individuals operating under foreign direction. The group allegedly impersonated police officers to trick citizens into updating the VNeID app, stealing personal information and subsequently defrauding over 1,000 victims of approximately 5 billion VND (around $200,000 USD).
