Can Tho Boosts Trade Ties with Pakistani Partners

Can Tho City in southern Vietnam is aiming to strengthen trade relations with Pakistan, targeting a five- to tenfold increase in annual bilateral trade turnover from the current less than US$1 billion. The initiative seeks to leverage complementary strengths between the two countries to deepen economic cooperation. The Pakistani Ambassador to Vietnam expressed confidence that his credibility, capability, and enthusiasm would effectively complement the embassy's efforts to promote trade, investment, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges, while also supporting Vietnamese citizens in the region. He highlighted Vietnam's political stability and the positive public atmosphere surrounding the upcoming election. Vietnam also stands ready to share its expertise in agriculture, including crop varieties, cultivation techniques, irrigation, agricultural mechanization, post-harvest preservation, and the development of agricultural value chains. This reflects Vietnam's commitment to international cooperation in various sectors. Despite increasingly complex regional and global environments, Vietnam continues to regard Japan as a key partner and remains committed to deepening their comprehensive strategic partnership. This underscores Vietnam's emphasis on international engagement and its view of diplomacy as a "vital and regular" task alongside national defense and security. Domestically, the Party Central Committee is discussing new regulations on prohibited matters for Party members, which will replace existing rules.
