Thai PM Meets Former UK PM: Discusses Technological Innovation and Energy Transition

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin welcomed former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to Government House for a discussion. Mr. Blair's visit to Thailand coincided with his participation in Gastech Bangkok 2026. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekkanit Nitithanprapas and Deputy Minister of Interior Pornphrom Suwanphachai also attended the meeting. The discussion focused on exchanging views regarding technological innovation for advancing into the new era economy and the transition to clean energy. Following the meeting, the Prime Minister proceeded to preside over the opening ceremony and deliver a special lecture at Gastech Bangkok 2026. The event includes participation from LNG producers, global energy companies, buyers, traders, investors, infrastructure developers, and developers of AI and low-carbon energy. Earlier, at 8:27 AM, Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police Kitirat Phanpetch visited Government House. He stated that his visit was a customary greeting and not for any special report. Regarding the crackdown on foreign nominees, he confirmed that operations are ongoing without interruption and that he has conveyed policy directives to Deputy Commissioner-General Siran Nuamna. When asked about handover of duties as his retirement approaches, the Commissioner-General acknowledged discussions on various policies, including those related to prevention and suppression, especially concerning cyber vaccines and critical security units, with the prospective new Commissioner-General. Subsequently, at 8:45 AM, Commander of the Royal Thai Navy Admiral Pairot Feungchan arrived at Government House. He briefly told reporters that he was there to thank the Prime Minister, confirming it was in relation to the frigate purchase. Shortly before, Deputy Commander of the Royal Thai Navy Vice Admiral Nares Wongtakul was seen leaving Government House but did not speak to the press.
