LTFRB Summons Bus Operator Over Fatal Manila Crash

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said on Sunday that it summoned the operator of a passenger bus involved in a fatal road crash along España Boulevard in Sampaloc, Manila. LTFRB acting Chair Greg Pua said the bus operator needs to explain why its Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) should not be revoked. The LTFRB official made the statement after a passenger bus figured in a fatal accident along the said road. "The bus operator needs to explain why its CPC should not be revoked," Pua said. The LTFRB is demanding a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident and specific measures from the bus operator to prevent similar tragedies from recurring. The regulatory body has indicated a firm stance in holding the operator accountable to protect public safety. In the Philippines, traffic congestion and aging infrastructure in urban areas are among the factors threatening the safety of public transportation.
