Over 13,000 'Candy' Pills Seized in Central Vietnam; Warning Issued to Youth

A suspect attempting to sell over 13,000 drug pills was arrested in Quảng Trị province, central Vietnam. This case highlights the sophisticated methods used to distribute narcotics, particularly disguised for young people, prompting authorities to issue warnings. On the afternoon of September 24, local time, Đồng Hới Police in Quảng Trị province, in coordination with the provincial police's Narcotics Crime Investigation Department and other professional units, arrested Nguyễn Đình Chính (born 2002, residing in Đồng Phú 3 neighborhood, Đồng Hới ward). Chính was apprehended while allegedly engaged in the illegal trading of narcotics. A search of the third floor where Chính resided uncovered a black handbag containing 13,666 gray pills. Preliminary investigations indicate that Chính confessed these pills were narcotics, disguised as 'candy' and hidden for distribution. The case has been transferred to the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department of the Quảng Trị Provincial Police for further investigation and legal proceedings. Đồng Hới Police emphasized that drugs are often disguised in various forms, with these types of pills commonly referred to as 'candy.' They strongly cautioned residents, especially youth, to heighten their awareness of the dangers of drug abuse and to strictly refrain from experimenting with, possessing, transporting, selling, or aiding any drug-related activities. The public is urged to promptly report any suspicious activities or individuals related to drugs to the authorities. In Vietnam, the abuse of drugs among the youth has become a societal concern, particularly in urban areas, coinciding with economic growth.
