DragonFi Gains SEC Sandbox Approval for Global Stock Access
DragonFi Securities Inc. has received approval to offer Philippine investors access to select global stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) through the Securities and Exchange Commission's Strategic Sandbox. This move is expected to further internationalize the domestic financial market.
MANILA, Philippines — DragonFi Securities Inc. has secured regulatory sandbox approval to offer Philippine investors access to select global stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Tycoon Edgar Sia II’s DoubleDragon Corp. announced on Tuesday that it had gained admission to the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Strategic Sandbox, or Stratbox, in accordance with Memorandum Circular No. 9. This approval allows DragonFi to provide domestic investors with access to global market products that were previously more restricted. The move is seen as a significant step in further internationalizing the Philippine financial market. The announcement by DoubleDragon Corp., led by prominent businessman Edgar Sia II, suggests this is part of his broader business expansion strategy. In the Philippines, remittances from overseas Filipino workers have been a crucial pillar of the economy. Expanding domestic investment opportunities is therefore vital for fostering domestic capital formation and ensuring sustainable economic growth. DragonFi's initiative offers investors a chance to diversify into a wider range of asset classes, potentially contributing to the stability of the Philippine economy. Amidst geopolitical tensions in the South China Sea and increasing regional economic uncertainties, providing domestic investors with avenues to diversify into overseas assets can enhance economic resilience. For Japan-Philippines relations, the improvement of the domestic investment environment in the Philippines could further bolster economic exchanges, especially as Japanese companies continue to expand their investments in the Philippine market.
