Stone-throwing perpetrator on DEMU train running between Mandalay and Yangon arrested

It is reported that a perpetrator who threw stones at the No. 6 DEMU express passenger train running on the Mandalay-Yangon route has been arrested between Ela and Sawatti stations. Myanmar Railways is operating express passenger trains with new, modern air-conditioned DEMU carriages to ensure passengers can travel more comfortably. On July 31, at 12:56 PM, while the No. 6 down Mandalay-Yangon DEMU express passenger train was running between mile posts 212/20 and 21 between Ela and Sawatti stations, stones were thrown from the east side of the railway track. As a result, the body of the first-class carriage No. 4 DEMU(F)1001, the last carriage of the train, was hit on the upper left side, causing paint damage. It is reported that no passengers were injured. Railway security police and officials went to the scene of the incident and arrested the perpetrator. The perpetrator, Aung Thet Oo, 15, son of U Win Oo, residing in Yankin village, Lewe Township, and Pyar Soe, 14, son of U Win Kyine, were arrested. A case will be opened at the relevant Ela Township police station for legal action in accordance with the Railway Transportation Business Law. The incident caused a train delay of 12 minutes, but there were no other train delays, and operations are continuing as normal. According to Section 79(b) of Chapter 18 of the Railway Transportation Business Law, which was issued on January 5, 2016, the penalty for throwing an object at a train or performing any act is imprisonment for a term of not less than 5 years and not more than 20 years, or a fine, according to Section 84. Legal action will continue in accordance with the law.
