Myanmar junta assures Indian govt it will not permit its territory to be used against India’s security interests

According to the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs, the 23rd India–Myanmar National Level Meeting, held in New Delhi on 7–8 July, the Myanmar junta representatives assured India that its territory would not be allowed to be used for activities against India’s security interests, ANI reports. The meeting was led by India’s Home Secretary Govind Mohan and the Myanmar Junta Deputy Home Minister Major General Min Thu. The two sides reviewed the security situation along the India–Myanmar border, reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace, stability and security along the border, and agreed to strengthen intelligence sharing and operational coordination. They also discussed expanding capacity-building and cooperation between their security agencies, stressed the importance of preventing the misuse of either country’s territory for activities harmful to the other’s security, and discussed the importance of completing the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project and the India–Myanmar–Thailand Trilateral Highway as key connectivity initiatives. The meeting follows a state visit by Myanmar junta leader Min Aung Hlaing that took place shortly after Min Aung Hlaing was named “president” under the new quasi-civilian Myanmar administration.
