Cambodia to Host 2026 Francophonie Summit, Aiming to Enhance Global Role

Cambodia is set to host the 20th Francophonie Summit in Phnom Penh from November 15-16, 2026. The summit aims to promote dialogue, exchange views, and find practical solutions to global challenges concerning peace and sustainable development. On September 21, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn led the 7th meeting of the National Committee for Organizing the Summit. Cambodia and France have expressed a shared commitment to making this summit a prominent event in the Asia-Pacific region, the first time since the Francophonie Summit was held in the region 29 years ago. The Cambodian government is meticulously preparing, with numerous preparatory meetings being organized. On September 9, 2026, Mr. Ouk Sela led the first preparatory meeting for a rehearsal of the summit, scheduled for September 26, 2026. Additionally, two significant side events are planned: the "Village de la Francophonie" and "FrancoTech." These were discussed during an inter-ministerial meeting on June 18, 2026. The organization of these events will provide Cambodia with a rare opportunity to showcase its artistic, cultural, tourism, and economic potential to the world.
