A 9-year-old boy in Vietnam's central Quảng Trị Province has been hospitalized after being severely beaten by his father for forgetting his school bag. The father reportedly used a plastic pipe to strike the child multiple times, leaving him with bruises on his buttocks, back, arms, and eyes. The incident occurred on the evening of July 21. The boy was admitted to Minh Hóa District General Hospital with soft tissue damage, though no deep organ injuries were immediately detected. Initially, the family claimed the child had fallen, but local authorities launched an investigation due to suspicions of foul play. On the morning of July 21, the father, Đinh Xuân Hương, 34, admitted to beating his son at the Minh Hóa xã People's Committee. He confessed to using a plastic pipe out of anger over the boy forgetting his school bag. After the beating, the boy was taken to the hospital by his family. On July 22, the family requested the boy's discharge to transfer him to a higher-level medical facility for further examination of his injuries. The family has two children, with the victim being the elder son. The boy is registered in Kim Phú xã but is currently residing temporarily in Minh Hóa xã. This incident highlights concerns about child abuse in Vietnamese society, where traditional values sometimes clash with modern pressures, leading to domestic violence. While the government emphasizes child protection, there is a recognized need for further education and awareness campaigns.
